Biography

Mantegaftot Sileshi Siyoum was born and raised in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. There he completed his degree in theatre studies (2001), worked as a film director from 2002 to 2005, and later founded the advertising agency “abugida_pro”. He has lived in Germany since 2007, where he first took an 18-month course at the Deutsche Welle Akademie for media development. From 2009 to 2011, he studied international media at the universities Bonn and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and graduated with a Master’s degree. He has worked on Deutsche Welle’s “Learning by Ear” international education program since 2009. He also presents shows for the station’s Amharic-language department. His short film GERRETA was shot in his home city of Addis Ababa.
