Miguel Hurst

Biography

Miguel Hurst was born in 1967 in Freiburg and grew up in Angola and Portugal. He studied theatre and film in Lisbon. In 1998, he founded the theatre group Pau Preto, with which he performed at festivals in Cape Verde, São Tomé, Portugal, France and Spain over a period of five years. From 2003 to 2009 he was director at the Instituto Angolano de Cinema, Audiovisual e Multimédia, Angola’s national film institute. He later worked as an artistic director for Angola’s public television station. Miguel Hurst has been involved in countless plays

and films in Angola und Portugal as a director, actor and producer. Since 2010, he has been the project coordinator at the Goethe-Institut in Angola. He organises the art project “Projecto Mukange”, which aims to build local and international theatre networks, and he is the co-publisher of the photography book ANGOLA CINEMAS, which the exhibition about futuristiclooking Angolan cinema was based on.
