Biography

Leyla Bouzid was born and raised in Tunis (1984). In 2003, she went to Paris to study French literature at the Sorbonne and film direction at the “La Fémis” film school. Her graduation film MKHOBBI FI KOBBA (SOUBRESAUTS), presented at the 12th Cologne African Film Festival in 2012, was made several months before the revolution in Tunisia. She followed this up with ZAKARIA, a short film that she shot with amateur actors in the south of France. Both short films have been shown at more than 60 festivals worldwide and have won a number of prizes. Leyla Bouzid also worked as screenwriter for Tunisian director Walid Mattar`s shorts films CONDAMNATION and OFFRANDE and for his feature film VENT DU NORD.
À PEINE J`OUVRE LES YEUX (AS I OPEN MY EYES) is Leyla Bouzid’s first feature film.
