Carola Saavedra

Biography

Writer Carola Saavedra was born in 1973 in Chile and has lived in Brazil since she was three. She completed a Master’s degree in media studies and Romance studies at the Gutenberg University in Mainz and has since earned
a PhD in comparative literature at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. She has won a number of literature
prizes and the magazine “Granta” named her one of the 20 best young writers in Brazil. Her books have been
translated into English, French and Spanish and two of her novels have been published in Germany (“Landscape
with Camel” and “Blue Flowers”). She currently teaches literature and Brazilian cultural studies at the University
of Cologne.
