Biography

Born just outside Cologne in 1956, Norbert Servos was co-founder of the “Ballett International” magazine and worked as part of the editorial team for seven years. During this time, the magazine became one of Europe’s leading dance magazines. Since 1983 he has worked as a freelance choreographer and writer. He has written books about Pina Bausch and the development of German Tanztheater ("dance theatre"), as well as contemporary poetry, and he has choreographed many dance pieces (in Cairo, Athens and Havana, for example) that have been invited to be performed at international festivals. He has additionally worked as a guest lecturer on contemporary dance and choreography both in Germany and abroad. Since 1993 he has been artistic director of "Dance Lab Berlin", for whom he has worked on countless pieces, including the prize-winning dance film “Elements of Mine”, which he made in 2003 with Egyptian director Khaled El Hagar, whom he got to know during his time as lecturer at the Goethe-Institut in Cairo.
