Biography
Egyptian filmmaker Iman Kamel studied art, dance and film at Berlin University of the Arts and graduated with an M.A. in international relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in America. She is founder and CEO of Nomad’s Home Productions, a production company for independent films made in Germany and Egypt. In 1995, she made her first short films, and her debut documentary BEIT SHA’AR (NOMAD’S HOME), a homage to Bedouin women who live in the Sinai Desert, was shown at a number of festivals, including those in Yamagata, Cannes and Namur, and it received a special mention by the jury at the Dubai International Film Festival. It was also screened in Cologne in 2013 with the director in attendance.
JEANNE D’ARC MASRIYA (EGYPTIAN J’EANNE D’ARC) is her second feature-length documentary and it portrays artists and activists who campaign for the democratisation of Egyptian society. The film enjoyed its world premiere at the 2016 Dubai festival, and at the Women Economic Forum in New Delhi in May 2017, Iman Kamel was included in its list of “Iconic Women Creating A Better World For All”.
