Biography

Born and raised in Johannesburg, Catherine Henegan studied theatre at the ‘Wits Drama School’ until 1992 and has since been  working as a performer, designer and art director for South African stage and TV productions. In 2000, she graduated from  ‘DasArts’ theatre school in Amsterdam, where she has been living since. She was one of the founder members of ‘The  Glasshouse’ interdisciplinary theatre collective in 2004. Since then, she has taken on art direction for a range of plays in South  Africa, including AFRIKAAPS, premiering at the Cape Town Baxter Theatre in April 2010. This ‘hip hop opera’ won her  several awards both in South Africa and the Netherlands and was turned into a documentary of the same name, directed by Dylan Valley. In addition to her theatre work, Catherine Henegan has collaborated with musicians and visual artists as well as directing several short films herself.
