Biography
Lutz Gregor has been working as an independent filmmaker for various television channels since 1983, and his particular area of interest is the connection between society, music and dance. His cinematic work combines documentary-making techniques with artistic ones. He teaches courses at media, dance and art colleges, including “Physical Cinema” workshops. His film KÖNIGSKINDER was shown at the Max Ophüls film festival in 2002, among others, and won a prize at the Festival International du Film de Bruxelles in 2003 for its “innovative cinematic language”. His four short films FRANKFURT DANCE CUTS with dancers from William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt were shown as the German entry at the Temps d’Images festival in October 2005 at Villa Medici in Rome.
With films such as TIMBUKTUS VERSCHOLLENES ERBE (”from 2009 and SANSIBARS ERSTES FRAUENORCHESTER (Zanzibar’s First Female Orchestra”) in 2015, Lutz Gregor has already documented African subject matters on many occasions before going on to make MALI BLUES in 2016, a music film for cinemas and ZDF/ARTE television.
