Biography

Serge Palasie is an African studies specialist and in 2008 was a founding member of the African Students Association (ASA) at University of Cologne. He now does promotional work for the North Rhine-Westphalia Migration & Development Office. He has published texts on the subjects of migration in and through West Africa and the role of the African diaspora in the education and development policy. He is also curator of the Black is the

ocean exhibition on the “past and present of (forced) migration and flight”, which is part of the African Diaspora Cinema film series shown in Cologne Central Library. He also wrote the booklet accompanying the exhibition, addressing the question: “How are boats full of refugees off Europe’s shores linked to the history of colonialism and the slave trade?”
