Biography

Slimane Dazi has Algerian ancestors, tried his hand at professional football and boxing, and worked in markets before he became an actor. Since 2007 he has been involved in numerous films for cinema and television, including ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE, by Jim Jarmusch. In the 2013 FilmInitiativ series “New Films from North and South Africa”, Slimane Dazi played the main character in RENGAINE: The eldest of 40 Muslim

brothers in Paris, who try to dissuade their sister from marrying her black fiancé. For his work he was awarded not only with prizes for Best Actor at festivals in Canada and Senegal, but also with the “Trophée du cinéma francophone 2013”. In a French television interview, he said of the FESPACO-honoured FIÈVRES: “The film is not harsh, but strong. It is full of messages of hope, love, and poetry. When I read the script, I felt it to be a gift.”
