Abstract
In his documentary LIKE A MAN ON EARTH, Ethiopian Dagmawi Yimer describes the dramatic events that he and other refugees had to endure while crossing the Libyan Desert. Corrupt policemen hunt down the refugees there and take them to remote camps fi nanced by the EU, from where they are subsequently sold to illegal people traffi ckers. Anyone making it to the Mediterranean then has to face the extremely dangerous crossing to Italy in ramshackle boats – as did the fi lm’s author who eventually landed on Lampedusa. In a video workshop for migrants, he learnt how to recount his dramatic experiences through the medium of film.
