Abstract

The documentary PERISHED DIAMONDS shows the development of the Ghanaian film industry since the country’s independence. In the first few years under President Kwame Nkrumah, there was committed support for films. Later governments passed on the running of the film and television industry to foreign companies. The lasting consequences of this are described by veterans of the Ghanaian film scene, including Kwaw Ansah, Chris Hesse, Charles Bucknor, and Ernest Abbeyguaye.
