Abstract

The short film ANGST ISST SEELE AUF, which deals with a true story, already in its title echoes that of the 1972 film and stage-play Angst essen Seele auf (Fear eats the soul) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. At a small-town railway station, the black actor Mulu is attacked and injured by neo-Nazis. He is on his way to the theatre where he is playing the role of the Moroccan immigrant worker Ali, who falls in love with a woman 30 years his senior (the role is taken by Brigitte Mira as in Fassbinder’s film and filmed by his cameraman Jürgen Jürgens).
