Abstract

Ali, a young Tunisian, sells smuggled petrol. He lives in an abandoned building. When his father dies, he discovers his father's debts and the direct consequences for his two sisters, who are threatened with eviction from the family home. This sudden responsibility and the injustices to which Ali is subjected on a daily basis make his anger and bitterness grow. In this first feature, director Lofty Nathan sets his story in the present, with the hindsight of the revolution and a broken promise. HARKA depicts a generation that, more than 10 years after the revolution, is still trying to make its voice heard.
