Abstract

MOURAMANI by Guinean director Mamadou Touré, the first film made in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa in 1953, and a mystery surrounding it are the two starting points of Thierno Souleymane Diallo's first feature-length documentary. In search of the reel, the director travels through Guinea, then to France, but the quest proves complicated. By telling the story of what cinema was in Guinea and what it has become, AU CIMETIÈRE DE LA PELLICULE depicts the history of African cinema and raises the debate on the preservation of cinema.
