Abstract

Adji is a common girl`s name in Senegal. It`s also the name given to women who go on pilgrimages to Mecca or who are especially business-minded or successful. The AJI-BI in the film carry the title, because they secure their families` survival in Senegal through their work in Morocco. False eyelashes or braids - for a few euros, Mareme gives passers-by makeovers on the streets of Casablanca. The Senegalese is a street hairdresser, stranded in Morocco. Here Mareme lives in a community of Senegalese women who all share the same fate: Indecisive as to whether they should stay or risk the treacherous route to Europe, they try to scratch a living in the often-xenophobic Moroccan society.

The film won the Audience Prize at the Moroccan documentary film festival FIDADOC in Agadir.
