Abstract

The films in this programme are the result of a competition held under the title AFRICAN METROPOLIS by the Goethe-Institut in South Africa. From the 40 scripts submitted, six were selected and brought to life in Abidjan, Cairo, Dakar, and Johannesburg, with the help of South African producer Steven Markovitz. The competition produced a compilation of films as multifaceted in their content as they are in form. The films premiered at the Durban International Film Festival 2013 and its European premiere was at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2014.
