Abstract

Egypt is one of few African countries having an own animation industry. 50 studios produce 100 hours of animation per year from commercials to series up to short films.

Mohamed Ghazala, leader of the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation (ASIFA), Africa and the Arabian world will present an overview about the 75 years of history of the animation film in Egypt.
He will show how the North African revolution influences the animation industry. Besides exemplary animation films from Egypt, productions from all over North Africa are introduced. Egypt ASIFA currently works on producing animations dealing with the events which happened at the place Tahrir in Cairo.
