Biografie

Yvan Hervé Butera (He/They) is Rwandan-born and based in Kigali. He is an Art, Diversity, and Inclusion consultant and facilitator. He is a mental health advocate, a curator, playwright, psychologist, and cultural event organizer. Butera founded Kigali Pride Initiative, which organized the first Kigali pride celebration and Kaze Film Festival, the first and only Queer Film Festival in Rwanda. In addition to activism work, Butera has collaborated with a Rwandan feminist organization Sistah Circle, to gather Rwandan LGBTQIA+ communities. He also serves as a Board member of the Rwanda Arts Initiative (RAI). Butera holds a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Psychology and Psycholinguistics and a Master's degree in the Psychology of Well-being and Social Inclusivity.
